The Black Collectors Forum (BCF) is a pioneering initiative designed to expand the contemporary art market by targeting an emerging audience—the black high-end market. Founded in 2014 and launched at Turbine Hall in Johannesburg, BCF has been instrumental in reshaping art appreciation and investment in post-apartheid South Africa.
Reflecting a shift in economic power, research from the University of Cape Town’s Unilever Institute of Strategic Marketing shows that the black middle-class more than doubled in just eight years, reaching 4.3 million in 2012, with an annual spending power surpassing that of its white counterpart. BCF is at the forefront of engaging this growing market, encouraging art appreciation and investment.
Through strategic networking and thought-provoking discussions, BCF has garnered the support of esteemed art professionals, including curators, collectors, gallerists, auctioneers, art patrons, and executives. Our events create a bridge between first-time buyers and the art industry, fostering a sustainable culture of collecting.
